Linux Mint 21 is supposed to be released soon (Any Time Now ™) and when they do, there will be plenty of extra eyes on the changes/brokeness and I expect some more fixes then. That said, I’d give it a couple of months if you can live with that. But yeah, if you’re stuck with something you use all the time now broken, that’s pretty annoying. Apart from some annoyances and the display settings shakeup, I’ve been relatively okay. I’m using pretty much bog standard Cinnamon: no extensions and just a few standard settings changed around or features such as hot corners disabled. So, depending on what you’re using and what got changed around, different stuff may have got broken for different people/systems. ![]() Maybe Linux Mint applies migration scripts for updates, but I guess we just get the packages when we update. ![]() They did some major overhaul of various parts, rebasing the window manager, changing how display configs are handled, and much more. Yeah, Linux Mint is getting ready for the Linux Mint 21 release. all individual Cinnamon Settings dialogs are gone from the Start menu, so typing “sound” or “display” in the Start menu does not work anymore and you have to go through the System Settings dialog.the input level meter in the System Settings > Sound dialog is broken and not showing if a microphone is active: using the PulseAudio Volume Control app works correctly.touchpad settings were gone, so for example “Tap to click” was disabled: fixed by going into the Cinnamon System Settings > Mouse and Touchpad dialog and enabling that feature.all display settings were gone after updating, so monitor layout and orientation was back to default: fixed by going into the Cinnamon System Settings > Display dialog and redoing them.Stuff I noticed (and some I reported before): The Cinnamon 5.4 release apparently reworked some things, so other things are now kinda broken. ** (nemo:5472): WARNING **: 10:27:29.789: Current gtk theme is not known to have nemo support (WhiteSur-dark) - checking.Just a quick headsup for Cinnamon users (and yeah, when I find some time, I’ll try to dig up my Mint forum account and report back there too): I found lookingglass log but found several errors and I'm not really sure what to do next.įor example: Cjs-Message: 10:20:37.175: JS LOG: Requiring Soup, version 2: Requiring namespace 'Soup' version '2', but '2.4' is already Error importing applet.js from 10:20:37.176: JS LOG: Īnd Found 2 nul bytes in "\0\0" It suggests to look into errors in cinnamon and looking glass logs. Problem is that the Start menu that was placed in the upper left corner disappeared and I am not able to find it anywhere. It was all functional until today when it started reporting Problems during cinnamon startup error. I even installed some custom UI stuff following youtube instructions. ![]() Been using Mint for a while now but had no problems so far. ![]()
